Gullets & Accessories

Interchangeable plates, gauges, covers and grips make these saddle accessories useful for adjustment, protection and everyday riding. Bates gullets are available individually, in wide and standard ranges, or as kits with a measuring gauge. Compare them with a Thorowgood gullet or Ruiz Diaz system, and add saddle covers or a monkey grip from Saddleworld, Eurohunter and Aintree. Gullet systems are specific to compatible saddle models, so check the maker and series before selecting a replacement.

Replacement Gullet Plates

Many modern saddles feature adjustable gullet systems, allowing the front width of the saddle to be altered as your horse develops or changes shape.

We stock replacement gullet plates for Bates, Wintec, Thorowgood, PDS and Pessoa adjustable saddles, making it easier to fine-tune the fit without replacing the entire saddle.

Each manufacturer uses its own gullet plate system, so it's important to select the correct plate for your saddle model. If you're unsure which size or brand you need, our experienced team can help. Simply contact us or send through photos of your horse and saddle for guidance.

Saddle Pads, Half Pads and Shims

Saddle pads and shims can improve comfort, help fine-tune saddle fit and protect both your horse and your saddle.

Our range includes:

  • Sheepskin half pads for cushioning and pressure distribution.
  • Gel pads for shock absorption.
  • Shimming systems that allow additional support where required.
  • Half pads designed to help protect your saddle and improve rider comfort.

Shims can be particularly useful while a horse is developing muscle or where minor adjustments are recommended by a qualified saddle fitter.

Replacement Saddle Parts

Many saddles allow worn or interchangeable components to be replaced, extending the life of your saddle and allowing it to continue performing at its best.

Our range includes replacement parts such as:

  • Knee blocks
  • Thigh blocks
  • Billets
  • Screws and fittings
  • Other genuine and compatible saddle components for selected brands

If you're looking for a specific replacement part, contact our team and we'll be happy to assist.

Protecting Your Saddle

Looking after your saddle helps preserve both its appearance and performance.

We stock a range of accessories including:

  • Saddle covers to protect against dust, scratches and moisture.
  • Saddle stands to help maintain the saddle's shape during storage.
  • Leather cleaning and conditioning products to keep your saddle supple and well maintained.

Regular cleaning, correct storage and routine maintenance will help maximise the life of your saddle and ensure it continues to perform for years to come.

Ask Our Team

Discover more in our FAQs

What gullet plate do I need for my saddle?

The correct gullet plate depends on your horse's withers, shoulder shape and overall conformation, not the rider.

We stock replacement gullet plates for Bates, Wintec, Thorowgood, PDS and Pessoa adjustable saddles. If you're unsure which size you need, contact our team or send us clear photos of your horse and saddle, and we'll be happy to help you choose the most suitable option.

Can I change my own saddle gullet?

Many adjustable saddles, including selected Bates, Wintec, Thorowgood, PDS and Pessoa models, are designed so the gullet plate can be changed without specialist tools.

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific saddle. If you're unsure whether your saddle has an adjustable gullet system or need assistance selecting the correct size, our experienced team is happy to help.

What is a half pad?

A half pad sits between the saddle and the saddlecloth to provide additional cushioning, assist with shock absorption or allow minor adjustments to saddle balance.

Half pads are available in a range of materials, including sheepskin, gel and performance cushioning materials, with different designs suited to different horses and riding disciplines.

When should I use a saddle shim?

Saddle shims are designed to make small adjustments to saddle balance or fit. They can be useful while a horse is changing shape through age, fitness or muscle development, or where minor adjustments have been recommended by a qualified saddle fitter.

Shims are intended to fine-tune saddle fit rather than correct a saddle that is fundamentally the wrong shape for the horse.

Do I need a saddle cover?

A saddle cover helps protect your saddle from dust, scratches, sunlight and moisture during storage and transport.

Using a saddle cover is one of the simplest ways to help preserve the leather and keep your saddle looking its best for years to come.

Can I replace worn billets myself?

Many modern saddles are designed with replaceable billets that can be changed by the rider without specialised equipment.

The replacement method varies between saddle brands and models, so it's important to use the correct replacement billets and follow the manufacturer's instructions. If you're unsure which billets your saddle requires or how to fit them, our experienced team is happy to help.

Do you sell saddle stands?

Yes. We stock a range of saddle stands and storage solutions designed to support your saddle correctly when not in use.

Using a properly designed saddle stand helps maintain the saddle's shape, protects the panels and promotes air circulation during storage.
