Stock Headstalls

Stock headstalls are designed for the demands of everyday riding, station work, mustering and campdrafting. Typically made from quality leather with durable fittings, they're built to withstand regular use while providing comfort for both horse and rider.

We stock a range of stock headstalls from respected brands including Toowoomba, Syd Hill and Eurohunter, with styles suitable for everything from everyday riding through to competition.

Western Headstalls

Western headstalls are available in a variety of styles to suit different riding disciplines and personal preferences.

Working and ranch headstalls are designed for everyday riding and practicality, while decorative western headstalls feature tooling, silver accents and traditional styling for shows and special occasions.

Whether you prefer a browband, one-ear or split-ear design, choosing the right headstall depends on your riding discipline, your horse and the look you wish to achieve.

Rope Halters

Rope halters are a popular choice for groundwork, training, leading and everyday handling.

Made from durable braided cord, they provide clear communication through strategically positioned knots and are widely used for groundwork, trailer loading and general horse handling.

Our range includes plain and coloured rope halters, along with matching lead ropes and accessories to suit a variety of horses and handling preferences.

Replacement Leads, Snaps and Components

Keeping spare leads, snaps and replacement hardware on hand can extend the life of your equipment and ensure you're always ready to ride or handle your horse safely.

We stock a variety of replacement leads, snaps and components compatible with many stock and western headstalls, along with accessories designed for everyday use around the stable, paddock and float.

Choosing the Right Headstall

The best headstall depends on how you ride.

  • Stock headstalls are ideal for campdrafting, station work, trail riding and general Australian riding.
  • Western headstalls suit western pleasure, ranch riding, trail riding and recreational western disciplines.
  • Rope halters are an excellent choice for groundwork, training, travelling and everyday horse handling.

If you're unsure which style best suits your horse or riding discipline, our experienced team is always happy to help you choose the right equipment.

Are headstalls and halters the same thing?

In Australia, the terms headstall and halter are often used interchangeably to describe the equipment used for leading, tying up and handling a horse.

Traditionally, however, a headstall is the part of a bridle that holds the bit, while a halter is used for handling and leading without a bit. Because terminology varies between English, stock and Western riding, many Australian riders use the terms interchangeably.

Our range includes leather, webbing and rope headstalls (halters), along with matching lead ropes and replacement components. The best choice depends on how you handle your horse, the level of control you require, and your personal preference.

Are rope halters better than webbing or leather halters?

Each type has its advantages.

Rope halters are popular for groundwork and training because they provide clear communication through strategically positioned knots. Leather and webbing halters distribute pressure more evenly and are often preferred for everyday handling, tying up, travelling and paddock use.

The best choice depends on how you intend to use the halter.

How do I choose the right size headstall?

Headstalls are available in a range of sizes to suit ponies through to large horses, with most offering adjustable buckles for a more customised fit.

Because sizing can vary between brands and styles, we recommend checking the product measurements or contacting our team if you're unsure which size will best suit your horse.

Do you stock stock headstalls?

Yes. We stock a range of quality stock headstalls suitable for everyday riding, campdrafting, station work and recreational riding, including styles from Toowoomba, Syd Hill and Eurohunter.

Our range includes traditional Australian designs built for comfort, durability and long-term use.

Can I buy a lead rope separately?

Yes. We stock a wide selection of lead ropes in different materials, lengths and colours, along with replacement snaps and other components.

Whether you're replacing an existing lead or matching a new halter, you'll find options suitable for everyday handling, travelling and groundwork.

What is the difference between a browband and a one-ear headstall?

A browband headstall includes a strap across the horse's forehead, helping keep the bridle stable during everyday riding.

A one-ear or split-ear headstall features a loop around one or both ears instead of a browband and is a popular choice for Western riding. The style you choose is largely a matter of personal preference, provided it fits your horse correctly.

Can I use a rope halter for riding?

Some riders use rope halters for groundwork and specific training exercises, and certain rope halters are designed to be ridden in.

For general riding, however, most riders choose a correctly fitted bridle and bit appropriate for their discipline and their horse's level of training.
