What gullet plate do I need for my saddle?
The correct gullet plate depends on your horse's withers, shoulder shape and overall conformation, not the rider.
We stock replacement gullet plates for Bates, Wintec, Thorowgood, PDS and Pessoa adjustable saddles. If you're unsure which size you need, contact our team or send us clear photos of your horse and saddle, and we'll be happy to help you choose the most suitable option.
Can I change my own saddle gullet?
Many adjustable saddles, including selected Bates, Wintec, Thorowgood, PDS and Pessoa models, are designed so the gullet plate can be changed without specialist tools.
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific saddle. If you're unsure whether your saddle has an adjustable gullet system or need assistance selecting the correct size, our experienced team is happy to help.
What is a half pad?
A half pad sits between the saddle and the saddlecloth to provide additional cushioning, assist with shock absorption or allow minor adjustments to saddle balance.
Half pads are available in a range of materials, including sheepskin, gel and performance cushioning materials, with different designs suited to different horses and riding disciplines.
When should I use a saddle shim?
Saddle shims are designed to make small adjustments to saddle balance or fit. They can be useful while a horse is changing shape through age, fitness or muscle development, or where minor adjustments have been recommended by a qualified saddle fitter.
Shims are intended to fine-tune saddle fit rather than correct a saddle that is fundamentally the wrong shape for the horse.
Do I need a saddle cover?
A saddle cover helps protect your saddle from dust, scratches, sunlight and moisture during storage and transport.
Using a saddle cover is one of the simplest ways to help preserve the leather and keep your saddle looking its best for years to come.
Can I replace worn billets myself?
Many modern saddles are designed with replaceable billets that can be changed by the rider without specialised equipment.
The replacement method varies between saddle brands and models, so it's important to use the correct replacement billets and follow the manufacturer's instructions. If you're unsure which billets your saddle requires or how to fit them, our experienced team is happy to help.
Do you sell saddle stands?
Yes. We stock a range of saddle stands and storage solutions designed to support your saddle correctly when not in use.
Using a properly designed saddle stand helps maintain the saddle's shape, protects the panels and promotes air circulation during storage.
