Only a Thoroughbred, Arab, or Trakehner stallion may produce a foal out of a mare of this breed. The purpose of this regulation is to protect the breed's graceful appearance and lively nature. The settlement of Trakehnen in East Prussia, close to Kaliningrad in Russia, is where the Trakehners originated.
Fun fact- Trakehners are believed to be Germany's oldest horse breed.
